On Wednesday, Oct 7, Jerry Brown signed a bill into law that mandates that the state of California must produce half of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. The bill also stipulates a doubling of energy efficiency in buildings in the same time. So far, it is unknown how these goals will be met. The details are for the state's Air Resources Board, Energy Commission and Public Utilities Commission to decide. The important part of this bill is that the requirements are in place that will facilitate and enforce a cleaner energy future. As long as expectations are not lowered and deadlines are not moved back, laws like these are the only way to force energy producing and energy distributing companies to implement clean energy facilities.
